Fifteen minutes from your hotel, four hundred feet up

The bay view nobody gets from the sand — a short ride off the Beach and you're airborne over Biscayne Bay.

You can see the water from your balcony on Miami Beach. This is how you get above it. The trip runs about an hour on the boat, of which five to ten minutes are spent hanging under the canopy at up to four hundred feet, with Key Biscayne on one side and the downtown skyline on the other. You leave from Pier 9 at Dinner Key Marina — a fifteen-minute drive from South Beach — because the bay there sits behind the barrier islands and stays flyable on afternoons when the ocean side is too churned up to launch. Take-off and landing happen on the back deck of the boat, so you finish dry unless you specifically ask the captain to dip your feet on the way down. Two or three people fly together under one canopy, children from age five, and nobody needs to swim.

Frequently asked

I'm on Miami Beach — why not book something on the sand?
Because of what the water does. The Grove side is sheltered by Key Biscayne, so the surface stays calm enough to fly when the Atlantic side has whitecaps and boats there sit at the dock. Fifteen minutes in a car buys you a day that actually happens.
Do I need to know how to swim?
No. You clip in on the boat deck, the winch lets you out over the water, and the same winch brings you back to the deck. Your feet only touch the bay if you ask for it.
How many of us can go up together?
Two or three under one canopy depending on combined weight, and children from age five fly alongside an adult. Anyone not flying can stay aboard and watch for a spectator seat.
