Flyboard

Twenty minutes standing on a column of water

The one your friends on the Beach will not believe you did — and yes, first-timers get up.

20 minfrom$150Ages 8+

A board plumbed to a jet ski fires water under your feet hard enough to lift you clear of the bay. It looks impossible from the dock and it is genuinely learnable in about ten minutes: the instructor controls the throttle from the water beside you and feeds you power as your balance catches up, so almost everyone is standing well inside the session. You get twenty minutes on the board, from age eight up. We run it in the sheltered water off Dinner Key rather than out on the ocean side, which matters more here than for anything else we do — flat water is what makes the first climb out feel steady instead of frightening.

Frequently asked

Will I actually get out of the water on my first try?
Almost everyone does. The instructor holds the throttle and adds power only as fast as your balance can take it, so it builds instead of throwing you. Expect a few splashes early on — that's the learning happening.
How old do you have to be?
Eight and up. Younger riders tend to pick it up faster than adults do, since they stop overthinking their feet.
Do I need to be strong or a good swimmer?
Neither. You wear a vest and helmet the whole time, and the board does the lifting. Balance matters far more than strength.
